Visa Information

All ACRC delegates are requested to make their own visa arrangements. 

Upon successful conference registration, please inform the ACRC travel team in case you need a visa support letter (invitation letter). Email us on: travel@southsouthnorth.org

Visa Types

ACRC delegates are eligible for two different types of visas to Ethiopia. Please read more about the different types of visas below and be sure to make the right decision for your circumstances.

Conference Visa

  • ACRC delegates are eligible for a conference visa
  • Conference visa will only be issued to those who apply for an e-VISA or via their consulate (this visa cannot be obtained on arrival)
  • Supporting document required = individually addressed invitation letter to delegate from Ethiopian government
  • Process = Upon completion of conference registration, delegate should email: travel@southsouthnorth.org and (1) request individual invitation letter (2) provide their personal information (Full name (as appears in passport), passport number and nationality)

Tourist Visa

  • ACRC delegates are eligible for a tourist visa
  • Tourist visa can be obtained on arrival
  • Supporting document required:
    • General invitation letter from Ethiopian government
  • Process:
    • All delegates will receive the general invitation letter upon successful conference registration

Visa Requirements

Please refer the following requirements for the Ethiopian eVISA:

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date you intend to enter Ethiopia
  • Passport size photo and scanned copy of passport
  • Individual letter of invitation (can be acquired from ACRC travel team – travel@southsouthnorth.org)
  • Nationals of African States who can’t make e-Visa payment online can apply online and make the payment on arrival at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport in cash (USD)
  • e-VISA applicants can enter Ethiopia via Addis Ababa Bole International Airport only. Entry via other ports of entry is not allowed
  • Apply for an e-VISA online

Please refer to the following requirements for the Ethiopian visa upon arrival:

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date you intend to enter Ethiopia
  • Passport size photo
  • General letter of invitation (will be sent to all participants upon successful conference registration)
  • Confirmed hotel booking
  • Confirmed return flight booking
  • $50.00 in cash for the visa fee
  • Visa upon arrival is only available at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport. This service is not available at other ports of entry

Entry Requirements

Please remember to check whether you need a transit visa for countries in which you need to transfer or stop over during your trip to and from Ethiopia.

Passport validity

Your passport should be valid for a minimum period of 6 months from the date of entry into Ethiopia. Make sure you have two blank pages in your passport on arrival.

Health requirements

Prior to entry, visitors should be in possession of a valid health certificate for yellow fever. Vaccination against cholera is also required for any person who has visited or transited a cholera-infected area within six days prior to arrival in Ethiopia.

Temporary Importation of Laptops and Other Conference Equipment

To comply with the import customs regulations of the Government of Ethiopia, conference participants should declare laptops and conference equipment they may carry with them when entering the country. A detailed specification of the items to be brought in, together with the arrival/departure details of the participant will be registered. The items will be registered for temporary import by the customs office and they should be taken out of the country after the conference.
